Starpoet by Lisa Jain Thompson
Newsflash:
Sunlight reflecting obliquely
Off storm and bluff and the human mind:
Shot at an angle from high Mars orbit,
Captured on camera and the computer's eye,
Framed, sharpened, enlarged and enhanced,
Contrasted and extrapolated
Until there is hint
Of primate bipedality
Staring us in the face.
But that is what we do best
--- Hard wired from infancy to recognize humanity,
We have no choice
But to see the face.
But is it there?
Perhaps,
But we'll have to go if we want to find out.
We have no choice.
